THE ULTIMATE SAHARA GUIDE - what should I pack?
This guide contains information regarding the Merzouga trip.
To help you prepare for the unforgettable Sahara experience, we designed a list of things you’ll most likely need while staying with us in desert camps and tips regarding the Merzouga trip. Remember to leave your big luggage (suitcases, etc.) in our minibusses before leaving for the desert camp. As for the desert itself – a small backpack will do.
Your own drinking bottled water – there will most likely be no water in the desert, so make sure to provide yourself with the right amount of water while staying in one of our camps.
Hand sanitizer – because of the limited access to running water, hand sanitizer or wet wipes can help you to stay fresh, clean, and safe.
Medicines – painkillers and the ones you take regularly. Also, if you suffer from motion sickness and forget to bring your own medicine – in Morocco, there is one called nautamine; it costs around 1,5 EUR / 17 MAD and can save your life when you feel like the camel ride is a little bit too bumpy for you!
Sun protection and sunglasses – especially in the summertime.
A long scarf – to cover your face and protect it from the sand, wind, or excessive sun exposure.
A power bank – to charge your phone quickly (however, bear in mind that the internet signal will most likely be limited or none. A perfect social media detox, isn’t it?)
Warm clothes – there are many warm cozy blankets in the tents. However, thermoactive clothing is a must-have during lovely yet cold nights in the desert.
Emergency blanket – doesn’t take up a lot of space and keeps you warm during a cold night in the desert.
Cash – for tips (not obligatory). Berbers get up early in the morning to prepare their camels for work, after which they prepare breakfast for us. In the evening, they entertain us with music, playing drums and singing. What they do is genuine. So why wouldn’t we support the local employees for all the kindness they showed to us? It’s a nice gesture.
High spirits- you’ll spend a night in the desert. How many people can say that? Just enjoy the moment and have fun!
