    M'goun 6 Days Challenge
Depart Marrakech on a long road transfer east into the Central High Atlas. Travel via the regional town of Azilal before winding up into the tranquil Aït Bougmez Valley (often stopping near Agouti or Tabant). Upon arrival, meet your local mountain crew and spend your first night settling into a traditional Berber village gîte.
Meet your local muleteers and begin the walk into the Arous valley. Trek past terraced farmland and quiet stone hamlets, steadily ascending towards your first high mountain bivouac set below the M'Goun massif.
Cross a high mountain pass to descend toward the vast Tarkeddit plateau, situated directly beneath the main M'Goun ridge. Pitch camp for the night at a bivouac set amongst the high summer pastures.
An early start for the long ridge to the summit at about 4,070 m, then a descent to camp. Expect a long day on foot.
Descend towards the Oulilimt / gorge country back into inhabited valleys — sandals or wet-footed river sections are usual here.
Complete a short final walk down to the roadhead to meet your driver. Board your transfer for the return journey, arriving back at your hotel in Marrakech by late afternoon.

The full package
A 6-day trek to Ighil M'Goun (4,070 m) offers a wilder, more rewarding alternative to Toubkal, exploring the heart of Morocco’s second-highest massif. The route begins with a scenic walk-in through the tranquil Aït Bougmez valley, winding past terraced farmland and traditional stone villages. As you gain elevation, the trail crosses high summer pastures still used by transhumant shepherd families grazing their flocks. Summit day is a long, non-technical ridge walk at altitude—demanding good physical endurance, but requiring no technical climbing skills or ropes. Throughout the journey, you are fully supported by an expert local mountain guide, cook, and mule crew, staying in village gîtes and mountain bivouacs along the way..

Good to know before you go
The M'goun challenge is more like A real mountain trekking. If you are feeling up for the adventure be sure that you are in good physical condition. It is beautiful and worth the energy that it takes but be prepared as it is no walk in the park.

What you need for trekking ?
For your 6-day Mount M'Goun trek, prepare for strong high-altitude sun and rapidly changing temperatures in the Central High Atlas. Bring high-SPF sunscreen, a broad-brimmed hat, polarized sunglasses, lip balm, energy snacks, and at least 2–3 liters of water capacity with purification tablets. Wear lightweight long-sleeve shirts and trekking pants for daytime walking, but pack thermal baselayers, a fleece, down jacket, and windproof shell for cold bivouac nights and the exposed summit ridge. Finally, sturdy, broken-in hiking boots with good ankle support are essential for the rocky terrain, along with trekking poles to assist on long descents.
